In the wake of the devastating magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Northern Cebu on September 30, the region continues to grapple with the emotional and structural aftermath. Yet amid the uncertainty, BingoPlus Foundation transformed tragedy into a powerful call to action, mobilizing an extensive relief effort fueled by compassion, perseverance, and an unwavering commitment to public service.

A Mission Defined by Courage and Service
Immediately after the quake, BingoPlus Foundation mobilized to deliver PHP 6 million worth of relief support from DigiPlus Interactive and BingoPlus. What followed became one of the Foundation’s most challenging relief operations under its BayanihanPlus program.
The Manila-based Foundation team, together with Cebu-based BingoPlus volunteers, braved continuous aftershocks, heavy rainfall, damaged infrastructure, and treacherous roads. On October 13, the mission reached a critical point when a 5.8 magnitude aftershock struck while volunteers were on the ground, reinforcing the urgency and difficulty of the operation.

Despite the dangers, the team pressed on—committed not only to delivering relief packs but also to multiplying goodwill and bringing hope to thousands of displaced Cebuanos.
BingoPlus Foundation Communications Officer Jem Tumbaga shared, “Serving others is not about how easy the journey is, but how willing your heart is to keep going for those who need you the most.” Despite fear and fatigue, the resolve to serve remained steadfast.
Collaboration That Multiplied Impact
Executing one of its most complex operations to date, the Foundation partnered with BingoPlus branches, local government units, the Philippine Army 53rd Engineering Brigade, the Philippine Accessible Disability Services (PADS), and supply chain networks. These partnerships ensured efficient distribution of relief goods across six municipalities within days.
According to PADS focal person Nino Mangubat, access to some areas—particularly Tagnucan—was extremely difficult due to damaged roads. Nonetheless, PADS volunteers committed to delivering each relief pack, especially to persons with disabilities (PWDs), through house-to-house efforts.
Mangubat shared heartfelt gratitude: “This aid from BingoPlus Foundation is a huge help for PWDs here in Borbon. Thank you very much to BingoPlus for the support.”

Over 56,000 Residents Reached Through BayanihanPlus
From October 5 to 23, the Foundation successfully distributed thousands of relief packs to more than 56,000 residents across Northern Cebu. The PHP 6 million emergency assistance provided immediate support to families who lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones.
“Our commitment to the people of Cebu is unwavering,” said Angela Camins-Wieneke, Executive Director of BingoPlus Foundation. “This support represents a lifeline for tens of thousands of individuals. We help together. We recover together.”
Long-Term Support for a Long Road to Recovery
Recognizing that recovery extends far beyond immediate relief, BingoPlus Foundation is committed to ongoing collaboration with partners to assess and address evolving community needs as rebuilding continues.
Through sustained service and community-centered programs, the Foundation aims to continue uplifting affected families and ensuring that hope remains stronger than hardship.
