BingoPlus Foundation Provide Safe Water to Cebu

BingoPlus, through its social development arm, BingoPlus Foundation, has launched Project Clean, a critical initiative aimed at delivering clean, safe water to more than 15,000 residents in Dumanjug, Cebu. This project directly responds to the health risks caused by limited access to potable water — a concern that remains a leading cause of illness in many Filipino communities.

Addressing a Nationwide Health Crisis

According to health data, diarrhea is the third leading cause of death among Filipino children, often linked to contaminated water sources. To fight this, the BingoPlus Foundation distributed:

  • 138 MVP water filters
  • 11 rainwater catchment tanks
  • Comprehensive water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) training

All efforts are delivered in partnership with Waves4Water, ensuring proper use and long-term sustainability. These tools will benefit 11 barangays, drastically reducing the risk of water-borne illnesses such as diarrhea and amoebiasis.

Sustainable, Electricity-Free Clean Water Access

Under the Foundation’s KalusuganPLUS Program, Project Clean falls within the Accessible Healthcare advocacy pillar, aligning with national efforts to support water-challenged areas. With Cebu recognized by the National Water Resource Board as water-stressed, the MVP filters provided by the Foundation are a sustainable solution. Each unit is capable of purifying up to 3 million liters of waterwithout electricity — ensuring long-term impact, especially in remote locations.

On-the-Ground Impact

Local health authorities have already seen the need for such intervention.
Pilar Fernandez, a nurse and sanitation inspector from the Dumanjug Rural Health Unit, shared:

“The rivers may look clean, but the water is often contaminated. We regularly see children with diarrhea and amoebiasis. Project Clean will have a major impact on improving community health.”

The program is part of a larger ₱15 million donation from BingoPlus, unveiled during the Cebu Carnival, which also included post-Typhoon Carina recovery support and various ongoing Cebu-based development programs.

Dr. Reynilee Christine Cabilin, Municipal Health Officer of Dumanjug, added:

“We’re deeply grateful to the BingoPlus Foundation. This kind of support is life-changing for our most vulnerable barangays.”

Commitment to Responsible Corporate Citizenship

BingoPlus Foundation continues to scale its social efforts, increasing its CSR outreach budget to over ₱100 million. This expansion reinforces its mission to empower communities with healthcare access, disaster relief, and education, helping build a more resilient and equitable Philippines.
